Unless you have a professional taking care of music duties, they will more than likely be deferred to somebody who is not only unqualified for the task but also too busy with their own job to dedicate the proper care and attention to it. Many venues will, for example, pass the job onto the duty manager, banquet manager, or one of the venue staff. Too often the result is that the music for the Processional will generally be played from the beginning of the track, as opposed to from the point that the bride would have selected; the bride’s favourite part of the song won’t necessarily be the opening fifteen seconds – in fact, it rarely is.
Worse still, once the bride has reached the groom, the music will often drop out suddenly and awkwardly, as the unwary person in charge hits the stop button instead of fading out. We sadly witnessed this often before offering our own ceremony music service; not just during the Processional but also during the Signing of the Register and for the Recessional. When this music is faded subtly in and out by somebody who has taken great care to understand its place within the ceremony, the difference is noticeable and can be stunning.
